Det går inte att skriva rasism utan ras - en uppsats om separatistiska rum, rasifiering, agens, makt och vithetsnormer
(2019-05-29) Dini Elisson, Nadja; University of Gothenburg/Department of Cultural Sciences; Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvetenskaper
The essay examines the purpose of separatist movements for People of colour (POC). The essay found that POC get positioned differently inside and outside of the separatist room through everyday social practises. Where POC get discredited in their experience of racism in Swedish society, their experience gets validated through shared experiences inside the separatist room. By excluding the majority society there is a re-orientation inside the separatist room where POC get to move towards a subject position and the agency to re-act and focus on their own community. The separatist room also give strength through linked social capital and the empowerment to redefine their own reality. The essay further explores the critical discourse of the subject in Swedish media, and the findings points out limitations of the democratic landscape and discard race as a valid political category.
