Item Finanskriser & Transparens - En studie om korruption ur ett collective action-perspektiv(2018-02-20) Hansson, Jonas; Lundstedt, Martin; University of Gothenburg/Department of Economics; Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för nationalekonomi med statistikCorruption is a widespread problem in large parts of the world. Studying the phenomenon and putting forward useful propositions for decreasing corruption is therefore of immediate importance. A recent contribution to understanding corruption is viewing it as a collective action-problem. This view proposes that the solution, that is, decreasing corruption through collective action, is a large crisis that opens a window of opportunity through which action against corruption can be undertaken. However, so far this proposal lacks empirical scrutiny. This study examines this solution by looking at the effect of financial crises on the level of transparency, a proxy for a larger institutional change, in 64 systematically corrupt countries. We find no general relation between financial crises and change in transparency, but when looking at the effect on different regime types we find a small increase in transparency for liberal democracies. Our conclusion is that a crisis in general won’t lead to collective action against corruption, but that a crisis in liberal democracies can generate this process.Item Stratifiering av den svenska skolan- En studie om hur normer och värderingar inom lärarkåren påverkar attityd gentemot förstelärarreformen(2018-07-02) Hansson, Jonas; Göteborgs universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen; University of Gothenburg/Department of Political ScienceStratification within professions have sometimes been seen as a matter of de-professionalization and sometimes as an opportunity for the professionals to reclaim empowerment due to its occupation. The stratification theory suggest that professions are powerful institutional actors with capacity to reorganize in order to benefit from a more hieratic organizational structure. Simultaneously stratification might also fracture the norms and values of autonomy, equality and collegiality which often are associated with professions. This study examines how norms and values associated with the profession of teachers are related with attitude towards a reform intended to develop a career path (förstelärarreformen) in the Swedish school system. I find a general relation between norms of autonomy and intra-professional competition and the attitude towards the reform. I also find that some institutional structures might enhance this relationship but that institutional impact is rather complex. My conclusion is that the relationship between attitude towards the reform and norms of autonomy and intra-professional competition might indicate that implementation of the förstelärarreformen has fractured these norms and values associated with the profession of teachers.
