The economics of a silent pandemic - A health economic analysis of antibiotic resistance in Sweden

The overall aim of this thesis was to analyze the health economic consequences of antibiotic resistance in Sweden, and to assess the implications of methodological assumptions related to measuring health in health economic analysis. The thesis consists of four papers. Paper I analyzes the development of antibiotic resistance in Sweden and estimates the associated costs of healthcare. In total, healthcare costs were estimated to more than EUR 23 million in 2018 and were expected to more than triple by 2050. The analysis is based on the additional costs of resistance compared to susceptible bacteria. Paper II estimates the cost of production loss for hospitalized patients absent from work due to a resistant infection. Results shows that sick-leave days were, on average, eight days more than for infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Paper III analyzes how QALY estimates from different instruments and value sets relates to each other. Results show that the EQ-5D Burström and the SF-6D Brazier value sets rendered most comparable estimates, independent of health state severity. Finally, paper IV examines whether it is cost-effective to treat patients with severe urinary tract infection with temocillin instead of cefotaxime. The results show that it is cost-effective given a certain price level. The results from this thesis, and the studies included, suggest a significant health economic impact of antibiotic resistance in Sweden. Even with its limitations, health economic analysis is an essential tool in understanding serious health problems in the light of limited resources. Such analyses enable allocation of resources towards interventions with the most value for money.

Det är väl uppmärksammat i samhället att det råder en ojämställdhet i restaurangbranschen mellan kvinnor och män i kockyrket, liksom att det finns klara gränser för könssegregering inom branschen. Kockens arbete betraktas och är fortfarande ett mansdominerat yrke i restau-rangbranschen. Syftet med denna studie är att utforska och belysa de bakomliggande faktorerna och orsakerna till varför det idag är en ojämställdhet och könssegregering inom restaurangbran-schen. Dessutom att undersöka om det finns några hinder som kvinnliga kockar med en ledar- och chefsposition stöter på inom kockyrket. Genom en kvalitativ forskningsmetod med ett ge-nusperspektiv har fyra kvinnliga kökschefer/krögare intervjuats i åldern 25-35 år. Resultatet visar på en klar ojämställdhet inom branschen mellan könen. Liksom att det finns många före-ställningar och normer i samhället som motsätter att kvinnor arbetar heltid, arbetar som kockar på restauranger, kvinnor med chefspositioner och att kunna kombinera familjeliv med yrkesliv. Sociala strukturer i samhället hindrar kvinnliga kockar att utvecklas och göra karriär delvis på grund av arbetsvillkoren. Även under uppväxten präglas ens grundvärderingar och egenskaper genom både kulturer, skola, föräldrar, organisationer, media och utbildningar. Vilka har en står påverkan på ens framtida karriärutveckling. Resultatet visar även på att kockskolorna mer ak-tivt och långsiktigt bör arbeta med frågor som rör jämställdhet i skola och arbetsliv. Kockut-bildningarna och praktikernas utformning påverkar kockarnas framtida chanser och anställ-ningsbarhet. Ett gediget lärlingssystem eller utökad längd på praktiken skulle kunna förbättra kockars förutsättningar. Dessutom bör skolan aktivt samarbeta med restaurangbranschen för att utveckla utbildningen, liksom förbättra sitt jämställdhetsarbete för en ökad balans mellan könen.
Porrkomplexxxt! - En kvalitativ studie om ungdomars syn på pornografi

The aim of this study has been to investigate Swedish youth’s conceptions about pornography and sexuality through a gender and power perspective. The questions of issue were the following: 1. Does youth reflect about gender and sexuality concerning pornography? a) Does any norms appear concerning consumption of pornography and sexuality? b) Is any kind of power structure related to gender recognized concerning pornography? c) Does youth think that pornography effects the conception of gender and sexuality? If so, how? 2. Are there any differences between how girls and boys reflect about the questions of issue above? The used research method has been qualitative individual semi-structured interviews with eight students totally, four girls and four boys, all in the ages of 16-18. The study has a hermeneutical and abductive approach. The result shows that the respondents recognize both positive and negative influences from pornography. They describe pornography as exciting, instructive and inspiring as well as degrading against women, disgusting and pressure engendering. The respondents think pornographic material influence others more and mainly more negative than it influences themselves. The respondents perceive patriarchal structures in pornography. They oppose these structures and use strategies to avoid them. The respondents make a distinction between sex in pornography and their personal experiences of sex. The respondents are aware of gender specific norms concerning sexuality and pornography and they both oppose and maintain these norms. We found both differences and similarities in the comparison between girls and boys. The most distinct difference is that the boys consume pornographic material more regularly than the girls. The boys are generally more positive towards and have more opinions regarding pornography. A significant conclusion is that the respondents’ thoughts about pornography in a substantial extent are characterized by ambivalence. The respondents consider pornography as easily accessible and taboo at the same time. The result shows that the respondents are influenced by both conservative and liberal values in concern to sexuality in general and pornography in particular.
Utomhuspedagogikens natur- en kvalitativ studie om hur lärare i årskurserna 1-3 använder naturen som ett utvidgat klassrum.

Sammanfattning Skolan ska vara en likvärdig plats för eleverna att främja sociala relationer, kunskap och eget ansvar. Vidare ska skolan bidra till elevernas möjlighet till utveckling och lust att lära (Skol- verket, 2018). Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att genom intervjuer, ta reda på hur lärare ser på att använda naturen som ett utvidgat klassrum, och om det kan bidra till ökat lärande för eleverna. Samt vilka fördelar respektive nackdelar lärare ser med att använda utomhuspedago- gik i undervisningen. Studiens resultat belyser det lärare anser vara positiva effekter med ut- omhuspedagogik, och hur bra anpassnings- och inkluderingsmöjligheterna är för en likvärdig utbildning. Avslutningsvis diskuteras intressanta tankar om utomhuspedagogiken och dess följ- der, fördelar och nackdelar, samt om utomhusundervisning kan leda till exkludering av eleverna.
