Item A qualitative study about the effects of Transport Information Systems on the insurance premiums for haulage companies(2004) Granhage, David; Persson, Johan; Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för informatikThe last decades the information technology has invaded our society and affected the way we live our lives. In recent years it has also reached the vehicle industry. A tougher competition in the automotive business is driving on the development of IT. The Automotive companies are looking for new ways of differentiate against their customers. IT is a powerful tool to improve the car. The haulage companies have generally low margins, and the need of a more effective transport is getting more obvious. The need of lower fuel consumption, lower communication costs and a more effective rout planning is needed. Transport Information System has been more common in the commercial traffic. The system is used for dynamic navigation – to find the fastest way, to get continuous serviced, to control security systems like brakes, to get detailed information about fuel consumptions and optimize driving behaviour, all of this gives more effective transports. New technology such as GPS and telematics allows for new value propositions in the insurance industry context. In particular the new way of information gathering on risk relevant parameters, through the use of active and passive tags, GPS and telematic leads to these changes, with more accurate information available to insurance companies. They can use this additional information for risk evaluation, dynamic pricing and insurance product customization. This study focus on haulage companies and Transport Information Systems, we will investigate if haulage companies that have a TIS system can get a lower insurance premium. The purpose is to investigate how both insurance companies and haulage companies can benefit from this technique. Such work has not yet been thoroughly examined; therefore we saw a good opportunity to investigate it.Item Att ses och synas som sitt kön. Item Digitalization: An alternative method of tourism in order to reduce transportation(2021-06-11) Skarpetis, Georgios; Persson, Johan; University of Gothenburg/Graduate School; Göteborgs universitet/Graduate SchoolThis thesis deals with the topic of digitalization within the tourism sector. The main focus was on researching if a digitized approach had the possibility to satisfy travellers while reducing physical traveling. The importance of finding alternative ways of traveling stems from the unsustainable increase of emissions that traveling entails. The tourism industry accounts for 22% of transport emissions, something that is predicted to increase by 25% until 2030 and will account in the future for 21% of transport emissions. In addition, tourism plays a crucial economic role in many countries as its economic growth comes from the tourism industry. Nevertheless, COVID-19 has provided the chance to reshape the industry and provide a more responsible and sustainable future. With the help of an empirical study conducted in Sweden, we found that a digitized approach of traveling could work as an alternative but there were barriers such as the need for travellers to experiencing everything in real life rather than through a technological application and stakeholders operating within the sector wanting to take advantage of the cash flow that tourism entails. Furthermore, through an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) we 1 identified and ranked which types of tourism that are most ready for a digitized approach of tourism from the perspective of Sweden and found that the business type of tourism distinctly was the most ready type. The research is designed with literature review and interviews to conduct both qualitative and quantitative data. The quantitative data were to examine the readiness of the different types of tourism, whereas the qualitative data were gathered to get a better insight into tourism and find the commons and differences gathered from the literature. The quantitative data were analyzed with the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) system. The findings showed that people have embraced digital and virtual forms of tourism and with the help of experts we identified three types of tourism that are more ready to turn into digitalization (business, cultural, sports). Furthermore, Sweden is ready to adopt such an alternative way of traveling from a technological perspective. 2Item Exploring fertilization strategies for zostera marina growth: organic vs. inorganic fertilizer.(2024-01-16) Persson, Johan; Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för marina vetenskaper; University of Gothenburg/Department of Marine SciencesItem An inventory optimization toolbox in SMEs(2023-07-03) Olofsson, Jakob; Persson, Johan; University of Gothenburg/Graduate School; Göteborgs universitet/Graduate SchoolIntroduction - The globalization of e-commerce and the emergence of supply chains have allowed SMEs to join in shaping the global economy. Although SMEs contribute a lot to global development, they usually experience a number of challenges in their daily operations affecting their profitability and performance. A general inability of managing inventory normally constitutes a significant challenge and causes increased capital tie-up and total costs. Purpose - This thesis aims to compile and evaluate an inventory management toolbox for SMEs that incorporates specific tools to reduce capital tie-up and total costs by optimizing inventory levels. Methodology - A case study with a mixed approach of both qualitative and quantitative data has been applied to fulfill the purpose of this thesis. The collected data consists of both primary and secondary data. Primary data include interviews, meetings, e-mails and raw data while secondary data consist of academically published articles. Empirical data - Company X admittedly experiences issues with a lack of cash flow, since heavy investments in inventory is causing capital tie-up and increases total costs. Inventory turnover rate is an important key figure for the company and slow-moving items impacts the company’s performance massively. Analysis - By applying theory on the collected empirical data, we give suggestions on and present how to use the compiled toolbox as a framework to increase inventory turnover rate, reduce capital tie-up and total costs. Conclusion - This thesis has proven the compiled toolbox to be effective in increasing inventory turnover rate, reducing capital tie-up and total costs. Moreover, this thesis has created a foundation of a toolbox and should be seen as a starting point to further develop.
