Item Mätning av psykiskt välbefinnande bland ungdomar i Sverige Användningen av GHQ-12(Arbetslivsinstitutet, 1998) Sconfienza, CThe present study is a multivariate analysis of the General Health Questionnaire, GHQ-12. The analyses were made using data from three Swedish studies. The group consisted of 2244 subjects (1285 women and 959 men) most of them young people. The aim of the study was to test the dimensionality and differential vali-dity of GHQ-12. Structural equation modelling was used for these analyses. Different types of models were tested; a one-factor model, some oblique ones, and some nested ones. Comparisons of fit between groups and structural stability of models were made. The differentiation of levels in latent variables between groups was tested. The results showed GHQ-12 to be a useful screening instrument in measuring mental health. A nested model consisting of one general and two specific latent variables produced the best model fit. This model also showed a stable structure both between men and women and between students, unemployed and working young people. However, groups differed in the levels of latent variables. Women scored higher in mental health than men (a high score means worse mental health) and the students and the unemployed scored higher than the working young people. When age and occupation were considered, comparing young full-time students (categorised by nursing, engineering and general education), the gender dif-ference disappeared. However, the groups still differed in mental health. One of the groups in this study is a randomised sample of young people in Sweden, born 1969-1975. This sample provided age- and gender-specific norms that will allow for comparisons and interpretations of GHQ-12 scores in other studies.Item Unga mäns och kvinnors arbetssituation(Arbetslivsinstitutet, 1997) Sconfienza, C; Gamberale, FThis report, which is the second on this questionnaire study, presents the responses from a representative sample of young people in Sweden. The results describe the situation of two groups: (i) those who were employed, and (ii) those who were unemployed at the time of the investigation. For those working, the work situation is described with regard to type and duration of employment, introduction to work, organisational culture, work tasks, social relations, work control, and opportunities for career and advancement. Differences between men and women were observed in relation to some aspects of the organisational culture and of work control. Differences were seen also between what the young people thought of as important aspects of an ideal work and the manifestations of these aspects in their actual work situation. Some proposals for further analysis are put forward, and some new research issues are presented.
