Item Generation of music through genetic algorithms(2014-09-22) Pavlov, Sean; Olsson, Christoffer; Svensson, Christian; Anderling, Viktor; Wikner, Johannes; Andreasson, Olle; Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för data- och informationsteknik; University of Gothenburg/Department of Computer Science and EngineeringThe focus of this bachelor thesis is to generate appealing music segments algorithmically. Since its creation, the art of music has constantly evolved, developing new genres and styles over time. Computers have long been recognized for their potential in discovering new music, but a computer has yet to produce a truly appealing piece of music. This thesis employs an evolutionary approach, generating large amounts of musical segments and selecting the best ones. This selection is made by a group of programmed raters with di erent specializations. This method aims to emulate the process of natural selection. While the generated results may not have been top hits in themselves, many interesting segments were created. The created music was diverse, original and could in many cases be considered to be appealing. This project was able to produce decent results in short segments but there is definitely room for improvement. It is recommended to add more raters to make the rating process as precise as possible.Item Den genusbärande slöjden - En väv av socialt, ekonomiskt och kulturellt kapital(2014-07-02) Svensson, Christian; University of Gothenburg/Department of Conservation; Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvårdThis study examines how various crafts are linked to the performer's gender and discusses the various factors that lead to the prevailing gender division between hard and soft crafts. Woodworking and metal crafts are labeled as hard in a tactile way and textile crafts as soft. In the questionnaire that was done, it was clear that young craftspersons today fall under the norm of what is considered feminine and masculine craft . Those who identify themselves as craftsmen use hard materials while those who identify themselves as craftswomen uses soft. However there was a clear trend for both sexes to practice leather crafts as well as handicrafts in techniques attributed the other gender. Another aspect that the survey showed was that those who considered themselves to belong to a different gender identity than just a man or woman practiced crafts more freely from the gender norm. The respondents were selected from a group of craftspersons believed too essentially craft items in order to use them. This proved to be wrong, almost all respondents answered that they worked with crafts to find an outlet for their creativity, and it was a way for them to feel good physically and psychologically. Based on the survey results, one can see how handicrafts are used performative to define a person's gender. It also becomes clear how this can be used practically to question and reformulate someone’s gender . The study has mainly produced materials of scientific value to previously existed theories. It is thus a basis for further studies both in gender studies, performativity and crafts. With the paper as a basis, it is possible to continue to explore how handicrafts associate with gender. The paper can also be used to explain why and how handicrafts are distributed across gender and the assigned value to different types of crafts.Item Grönsakshallen En företagsvärdering och verksamhetsbeskrivand uppsats(2008-02-01T09:06:05Z) Fladvad, Fredrik; Svensson, Christian; Göteborg University/Department of Business Administration; Göteborgs universitet/Företagsekonomiska institutionenItem Hur hanteras missbruksproblem på arbetsplatsen? En kvalitativ studie om HR- och personalchefers strategier att hantera personal med missbruksproblematik(2023-09-13) Svensson, Christian; Mattsson, Selma; University of Gothenburg / Department of sociology and work science; Göteborgs universitet / / Institutionen för sociologi och arbetsvetenskapThe purpose of this study was to investigate what strategies HR and managers with staff responsibilities use to detect, rehabilitate and prevent alcohol- and drug abuse in the workplace. Furthermore, if these strategies differ when employees work remotely or from the office. The study was based on theories such as co-dependency, Demand- Control-Support Model, Motivational interviewing (MI), Legal aspects, Alcohol policy and education and lastly Disease Model of Addiction. Qualitative method was chosen for this study and data was collected through interviews. The eight respondents were managers with staff responsibilities, HR managers, HR and HR Business Partners. The interviews were structured in five different sections: introduction, detection, rehabilitation, prevention and a final section regarding the respondents' challenges for the future professionals. The results of the study show that few respondents had received training in the area of substance abuse problems and how to recognise warning signals. All the respondents’ workplaces had an alcohol and drug policy. The study shows that few respondents were psychologically affected when they discovered staff with substance abuse problems. However, the majority thought that even though the discovery of these problems was sad per se, it was positive that they were in a position to provide help. The respondents felt that they had knowledge of the employer's obligation in rehabilitation and were aware of the employer's responsibility in rehabilitation by law. Half of the respondents felt that substance abuse was a common problem in the workplace and that it was more difficult to detect when working remotely. The method of detecting substance abuse problems differed, but it did not depend on the site where the respondent worked. Regarding the rehabilitation, the majority of the respondents had used an external specialist with the proper expertise. All expressed the importance of personalised rehabilitation based on the individual's needs, including psychological support if needed. Most respondents did not feel that rehabilitation differed depending on where the person worked as the same plan is followed. Regarding preventive work, the respondents varied in the extent to which they work, as some worked actively with it in the form of lectures and trainers, while others had gone through the subject during introduction. For the future, the respondents highlighted the importance of being attentive and vigilant to signals of increased digitalisation. In addition, workplaces should work proactively on the social aspect to avoid exclusion. Finally, it is important to learn to identify warning signals and the topic should be talked about more to de-dramatise the sensitivity.
