    KvinnSam verksamhetsrapport 2024
    (2025) Börjesson, Linda
KvinnSam – National Library for Gender Research is a unique Swedish resource. Originally founded mainly as a women’s archive, it has grown into a library specializing in women’s history and gender studies, staffed by university librarians, research coordinator and archivist, all with discipline-specific competence. In March 2018, KvinnSam was established as a university-wide research infrastructure following a decision by the University Vice-Chancellor. KvinnSam maintains the bibliographic database KVINNSAM, which is the largest database on gender research and women’s history in the Nordic region. Archival materials are catalogued in a separate database, Alvin. Other daily tasks include user and reference services, as well as archival work and providing assistance with research project development and management connected to the KvinnSam collections. In 2024, KvinnSam has carried out a number of activities according to the annual plan, such as initiating development of a new KvinnSam website, and further developing the KVINNSAM database. Other activities have included preparing digitization of the Kvinnliga Medborgarskolan vid Fogelstad archival collection, copying and long-term preservation of fax documents in the KvinnSam archives, as well as exploring how to gather and preserve digital and born-digital materials in the KvinnSam archival collection. Throughout the year, KvinnSam has taken part in research projects, such as the research project Queerlit – a database for LGBTQI literature, financed by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation. KvinnSam took part in this project by supplying a university librarian at 5–20 % through 2021–2024. KvinnSam is also a part of the research project Gothenburg’s 1968: A working class city in movement, with funding from the Anna Ahrenberg Foundation. KvinnSam was involved with 20 % during the first half of 2024 in this oral history project, which collects the experiences and recollections of individuals active in Gothenburg’s 1968 activism. With funding from Stiftelsen Riksarkivarie Ingvar Anderssons fond, KvinnSam has also created a network composed of researchers and cultural heritage workers, with a focus on framing women’s and gender history as a whole, in order to get at questions of future collection and preservation of women’s and gender historical materials. KvinnSam was also granted funds from The National Library of Sweden and the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation to digitize archival materials connected to the fight for equal suffrage and democracy, and making them publicly accessible. KvinnSam has been appointed to perform systematic searches with the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research. During 2024 two of KvinnSam’s university librarians worked with systematic searches focused on different topics with a gender perspective – the largest being a Swedish government commission assigned to the Swedish Gender Equality Agency, tasked with collaborating with the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research to produce an international research review on honour-related violence and oppression and based on the results of the overview, conduct a number of in-depth studies in 2025.
