Instruktioner i praktiken Riktlinjer för instruktionsdesign
Abstract
This thesis presents guidelines for creating useable instructions. The guidelines presented in this report combine design theory with a social and contextual
approach. Design of instructions has, prior to this, been based on cognitive theories concerning human memory and perception. To create usable instructions it’s important to look beyond design and see to how and when the instructions are being used. This is further underlined by two research questions: How are the available instructions used in everyday work? How should the instructions be
designed to support the users in their work?
The study was conducted at a large qualitative interviews. The findings production company in Sweden, usingestablished that the present instructions are not well suited for the environment in which they are being used. By creating instructions applying these new guidelines, the instructions will be more useful. If the users play a more active role in the design process, they will feel more involved which might lead to a more positive attitude towards the instructions. It’s also important to point out the purpose of the instructions, both while teaching new users but also in the daily work. Making the instructions more visible, reliable and available can also have a positive effect. Furthermore, the purpose of this project is to spread information about the possibilities of IT-based instructions that can facilitate storing, distribution and access to instructions in a big organization.
