dc.description.abstract | This the’sis aim has been to study elementary school pupils experience of ITiS (information
technology in the school). To investigate this essential interviews has been done with teachers
and more careful questions have been put to pupils to get at picture of their perspective of the
project. Even more information has been collected from classroom observations and valuation
made both by teachers and pupils.
This work includes a background over the projects of computers in the school done by the
government during the years and up to today and it also consists specific information about
the project ITiS contains as well as it’s aim.
According to the teachers their goal with the project has been fulfilled when it comes to new
ways of working and teaching. They also think that the use of computers in the classroom has
increased. They agree that the project has had positive effects on their work in terms of more
use of computers. But the biggest profit has been the development of their own competence of
using the new technology as a tool in schoolwork.
The pupils also speaks positively of the project and specially points out the interaction of ages
and collaboration between levels as motivating and fun. But apart from the teachers they see
no or only a minimal increase in the use of computers. At the time for the interview which
took place about half a year after the project had been concluded they don’t see any remaining
effects in the schoolwork at all. They put it as the teaching has gone back to ”normal”, which
they indicate is more or less lecturing. But even so they speak positively about entering
another project in the same style.
It seams like the measured effects of the ITiS project only can be find in the increased
individual competence of each teacher and their use and safety in the interaction with
computers. This would be a platform for further development in the school even though it
goes slowly and the road is far before the knowledge within the teachers can be transformed
to something of value for the pupils. There is a common belief that the use of computers will
solve all problems. But after a while with the use of this new technology it’s obvious that the
essential pedagogic problems still remains and has to be count for. There is one more
difficulty to be overcome and that is to get enough money for the needed investments in
computers and new technology. The use of information technology in school is a process that
needs time, reflection, valuation and analysis. Therefore it’ll take time before we know this
projects and similar ones fully effects. | swe |
