Kompetensutveckling för mobila mäniskor - designimpliktioner till IT-stöd för mobilt lärande
Abstract
ABSTRACT
People who work in the field of exchanging services and information are moving away
from the stationary workplace and are becoming more mobile in their line of work. They
need to be given the opportunity to develop their competence while mobile.
The theoretical frame of references includes the areas of knowledge, competence and
mobility. In our study we have applied both quantitative and qualitative methods. We have
conducted a survey as well as ethnographical observations. The intention was to obtain
essential knowledge in order to be able to answer the questions:
- How does mobility affect the opportunities of learning for the employees, working
in the field of IT at ADB-kontoret?
- In what ways do the employees, working in the field of IT at ADB-kontoret,
premier collect knowledge while they are mobile?
We have established that mobility in several ways affect the opportunities of learning for
the employees within the organisation of ADB-kontoret. Mobility has to a certain extent a
positive affect on learning in the regard that the employees who often are mobile get
several opportunities to interact with colleagues. Mobility can, however, to a large extent
cause shortage of time, which is the number one reason why they had to turn down offers
on traditional competence development.
It emerged that cooperating with colleagues was thought the most valuable way to obtain
knowledge. The reason for this was that it was the fastest way to retrieve workrelated
information and knowledge. We could establish that the premier ways, for the employees
at ADB-kontoret, to collect knowledge while they were mobile, was through socialisation,
internalisation, sharing and indexing.
In order to make exchange of knowledge, in a mobile context, easier it would be suitable to
develop a tool that would support competence development for the employees at ADBkontoret.
This would benefit the level of competence in general and also prove to be
helpful when introducing less experienced co-workers to the organisation. Implications for
design of such a tool are a result of our study.
