It is important for companies to develop a standardization policy and use standards as one of the strategic tools in order to facilitate commercialization of their research and development. This essay gives a description of the nature of standards and the different standardization bodies. Legal implications that have an effect on standards are discussed, such as IPR´s and Competition law. Suggestions on company strategies on standards are given.
