Sjöfartsmuseets tavelsamling Att flytta en samling och planera ett nytt magasin
THE ART COLLECTION AT THE MARITIME MUSEUM To move a collection and plan a new storage
Abstract
This paper deals with the problems that can occur during the move of an entire collection. The
collection discussed is located at the Gothenburg Maritime Museum and it has been
considered to move the collection to a storage where the other collections of the museum is
kept. No decisions are taken but this is a suggestion of how it could be done. The collection
which is studied contains of different kinds of objects like for example paintings, work on
paper and photographs. The whole moving project is looked into and all the different parts are
analyzed. For example witch material should be used, how the packing should be done and
what kind of storage system that are the most practical. Also the climate, the safety-and
cleaning routines, the risk of pests and so on, are looked into. The ideal recommendations are
given in relation to the actual situation to see and to point at the common circumstances when
a move and a new storage are planned. Hopefully there is a good chance to plan and to realize
a move and a storage that is fully acceptable and usable even though the budget is not
unlimited.
When a project like this is performed it is a good time to go through all the objects to look at
the condition of all the different items and also at the entire collections need of treatment.
How this could be done in an effective way is discussed and a proposal of the work and all the
included phases are given.
The study also aims to try and give a clue of how much time this kind of project could take
and how many personnel that would be the ultimate.
