This thesis is about how to integrate students everyday music in a teaching situation at a music upper secondary school and how these students uses information- and communication technology (ICT) when they search for music they want to study. The study is based on the information from three in-depth interviews and ten questionnaires. The information from the interviews and the questionnaires were compared and analyzed. In our study we found that the relation between students everyday music and the school music is complex. If students are allowed to choose which music they want to study does not mean that the teaching situation automatically becomes a democratic process. The democratic teaching situation is rather based on the teaching methods than which music is being studied. The main advantage of chosing ones own everyday music is the motivational aspect while the main advantage of studying music chosen by the teacher is the broadening aspect and the development of ones own identity. In our study we also found that future music pedagogy should be based on an understanding for the students everyday music, how they use ICT, and that their knowledge about music and ICT should be integrated in the teaching situation and that the teachers would benefit from making use of the students experiences.sv
