dc.description.abstract | New tools for the assessment of aphasia are important for both
clinical work and research. To see how they relate to already existing tests
can increase their usefulness. Western Aphasia Battery – Revised was translated
to Swedish and compared with the Swedish aphasia test A-ning, partly
to compare content and partly to see how sixteen people aged between 22
and 92 with aphasia performed on the tests. The subtests did not correspond
completely and the type of items included varied a lot. Between the two tests
A-ning reveals more information due to more items testing specific abilities.
The results for each subtest were compared with dependent t-tests. For most
subtests there were great individual differences and the scores for Auditory
and Reading comprehension and total score were significantly better on
Western Aphasia Battery – Revised and Naming was better on A-ning. It is
clear that a certain language ability does not always mean the same thing and
it is important to be aware about what is actually being tested. | sv |
