En undersökning av ett 1600- talsepitafium från Brahekyrkan, Visingsö

An examination of a 17th century epitaph from Brahe Church, Visingsö

Abstract
The aim of this thesis work has been to investigate a polycrome 17th century epitaph from Brahe Churh, Visingsö and to highlight some of the cultural heritage in our churches. Epitaphs are part of our common heritage, artefacts with their greatness during the 17th century. Relatively little research has been done on the field comparing to research on Swedish medieval church art. The first part generally describes the tradition and the art history behind these artefacts. The second part examines the construction and the various materials in the epitaph by ocular, optical and/or chemical analysis methods; cross-section microscopy and SEMEDX. Finally a conservation proposal and a conservation report are presented.
