Romers kulturarv i Göteborg -en landskapsdimension

The Roma's cultural heritage in Gothenburg – a landscape dimension The Roma

Abstract
The Roma people have a five hundred year long history in Sweden and are one of five national minorities. The Roma minority is heterogeneous and consists of several groups, including the travellers, formerly known as "tattare". Another term for the Roma in Sweden has been ”zigenare". Historically, the Roma has lived in camps and been more or less nomadic, and has moved around when no longer desired. By authorities and majority population, the Roma has been suffering discrimination. Law regulation has for a long time criminalized nomadic groups in society, which is why there is little material that can tell us about Roma history. Another reason for the lack of material is that the registration of citizens has been based on ownership, employment or housing, circumstances not applied to the Roma people in history. The state public inquiry The Roma's rights witch came in 2010 deals, among other subjects, with the Roma's rights to their culture and cultural heritage. The Roma's marginalization in society has led to the marginalization of the definition of cultural heritage. The essay will therefore examine the Roma cultural heritage in Gothenburg, in terms of the cultural landscape of the Roma people. The study locates fifteen places where the Roma's resided at some point between the end of the 19th until the mid-20th century. In relation to the result, the discussion is about the underlying territorial causes which led to the fact that the Roma historically has resided on the outskirts of Gothenburg. Title
