This thesis is a study on the development of the German theologian Jürgen Moltmann’s understanding of eschatology. Eschatology is often described as ‘the doctrine of last things’ but Moltmann considers this to be a mistaken point of view, rather he claims that eschatology is the ‘doctrine of the Christian hope’. This hope is according to Moltmann based on the belief that Christ was raised from the dead and that his resurrection unveils the universal future of the whole cosmos. This is the foundation in Moltmann’s chain of logic and throughout this thesis I will demonstrate how he develops this notion in relation to his belief in a God who suffers with the victims in this world.sv
