In the processes of espaliering in the essay one can find descriptions of problems that may arise during build-up time and what to do when facing these problems. The combination of process sketches and its explanatory text will aid anyone in starting to espalier. The aim is that knowledge on espaliering should not fade but be saved. Today small espaliered trees fit perfectly in the ever decreasing gardens. In those with already present fruit trees one can quite often see fruit trees with their largest branches cut as a desperate effort to decrease foliage. Espaliered trees with annual trimming will not become a problem of volume but rather an aesthetic detail, a live sculpture, in more strict gardens.
