Laminering av måleri på duk med och utan inskott Studie av fem olika material och deras funktion som inskott i en laminering
A Study of Five Materials Used as an Interleaf in Linings of Canvas Paintings
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to test the stability and function of five different materials
used as interleaf in lining of paintings on canvas. To understand the context of the
different lining-methods used in conservation and the degradation processes of linencanvas
support, a brief history of lining of paintings is described. The adhesive used for
the different interleafs tested is Plextol D360. The focus is on the nap-bond between the
adhesive, the new polyester support and the primed canvas. Lap/shear tests, where
carried out to demonstrate the different shear stability and stiffness of the lining
samples carried out with various interleaf materials. The peel tests showed different
capacity of removing the lining materials, depending on the different interleaf materials.
The test results are discussed in detail and summarized; particularly the materials effect
in the studied samples and how they can be used as structural support in lining of
paintings are here highlighted.
