The purpose of this graduate thesis is partly to investigate the historical context of Gothenburgs gasometer, to illustrate the administration and discussions about future usage, to map out its historical different values, and finally to make some suggestions (based on the previously mentioned investigations) about how to be able to develop the district as an urban part of Gothenburg, and still highlight and take advantage of the historical values previously mentioned. I have made my research in different ways, both through searching archives and literature, having a continous dialogue with the authorities concerned, and I have also been able to study the gasometer from the inside. The result is compared to similar gasometers in Sweden Stockholm and in Oberhausen Germany. Together, this case study is meant to make up a platform of/for arguments in the diskussion of preservation and/or demolition of the gasometer, or other similar industrial buildingssv
