En studie av två fotorealistiska målningar ‐ en semiotisk reflektion
Abstract
The main purpose of this essay is to examine, in what way the paintings by Karin Broos
and Markus Åkesson are images of autentic situations and furthermore in what way the
mediespecific essence is performed photografically. Questions occuring: 1) How are the
creations of reality shaped in the two chosen photorealistical paintings? 2) In what way
can you distinguish the iconicity and indexicality in the paintings Den vita klänningen
and The Passage? 3) How does the photografic presence occur in the paintings and
futhermore how can you distinguish the mentioned parts above according to the
paintings? The theoretical standpoint is based upon Charles Sanders Peirces ideas
concerning iconicity and indexicality. The methods used are based on thoughts
presented by Andrew Benjamin and Mieke Bal. The signs of iconicity and indexicality
can be studied in various ways in the two paintings, depending on how abstract and
obvious different parts occur in the paintings. The photografic realism is clearly visible
in the two pictures. At the same time, though, you can easily note the craft of painting
involved in the work. The painting can be looked upon from both a photorealistic point
of view as well as a basic artwork performance.
