With help of literary studies, cultural and historical plant material and historical photographs from the 1800s, as well as color and location analyzes of today’s Marieholm, the aim has been to create a design with five perennial plantings and associated management plan as required by the client National Property Board. The problem has revolved around recreating an 1800's setting in a public facility where only a few plantings exists today. These are usually made with annuals and not perennials which was desirable in this case. By reading and reviewing Marieholm's history relating to the outdoor environment, 1800s garden ideals and the development of gardener profession and its working methods so a design plan related to the 1800's could be created. So that the intent of conformation would be maintained a designed management plan categorized by the different plants in the garden and its needs was made. Such as lawn mowing, hedge trimming, etc. All because a help to the care contractor that manages the garden so that Marieholm constantly is a well-run place and keeps it´s attraction to visitors. The goal of attaching a management plan was to avoid the problems that existed in the background to this work. That means that large amounts for plantings in public places, but afterwards there´s not enough finances for continuous care with the result that the weeds take over the plantings. The work has been based on issues such as; which plant material was used in the 1800s and can be used today based on purchaser's requirements on experience, availability, safety and management levels. How can the plant material be put together to provide experience values for visitors throughout the year and increase biodiversity. And how the plantings should be managed so that they will be developed in accordance with the design plan´s intentions.sv
