Stadsparken i Mariestad – Modern tolkning av sekelskiftets fontänplanteringar
Abstract
This final essay is a modern interpretation of the fountain plantings during the end of the 1900th century in the public park of Mariestad. Mariestads public park was built during the 1860s and at that time it had traits of the German garden style. The fountain was a gift to Mariestad from the association ‘Enigheten’ and was placed in the park in 1893. In 2014 some changes are going to be made in the public park. A cultural-historical study needs to be done to examine how the fountain plantings looked like at the time they were landscaped, in the early 1900s. This essay will also examine how the fountain plantings looked like during the 1900, to see how they have changed during the course
of time. The modern interpretation will take inspiration from the garden ideals that were current in the late 1900th century. The methods that will be used to examine this are literature
studies, archival studies and analysis of the surrounding area. This will result in a design
proposal that aims modern interpretation of the fountain plantings. The result will be presented as a planting plan which contains floor plan and a list of suggested plants.
