| art.description.project | Strategies Of Magic is a series of lecture performances which discusses the concept of magic in relation to different political and philosophical questions. Here, the lecture is intertwined with poetry, music and magic tricks where the purpose is to reveal rather than disguise the the means behind the manifestation.
In Strategies Of Magic, the Illusionist is a representation of the populist politician, the two sharing the advantage of performing in front of an audience willing to believe in the trick - making the rabbit –or the political scandal– disappear without a trace. And where Illusionism equals trickery in this interpretation, magic equals political transformation. Furthermore, the relationship between translation and transformation is explored through the use of different kinds of simultaneous interpretation.
Strategies of Magic is under constant development, making each new performance unique. This is due to the continuous replacement of material, but also to the fact that I frequently involve other artists in the show, all of whom have been contributing to the piece in different capacities.
The piece has been presented at institutions, bars, galleries and clubs in Berlin, Copenhagen and Gothenburg over the past two years, each time in a new edition:
Strategies Of Magic #1 was a collaboration with artist and musician Cecilie Beck Kronborg and was presented at the cultural platform basso in Berlin in the summer of 2011.
Strategies Of Magic #2 was presented as a part of the performance project Funeral Charade Of Poses – Ein Abend Mit Freundinnen Und Basso. The event took place at Hebbel Am Ufer 1 in Berlin in September 2011 and constituted the finale and the end of the cultural platform basso berlin in Kreuzberg after 7 years of amazing events and arrangements.

Strategies Of Magic #3 was presented as a part of the international performance festival Feminists In Space at Warehouse 9, Copenhagen in November 2011.

Strategies Of Magic #4 was a collaboration with artist Thomas Dahl and was presented at the exhibition space Antechamber in Copenhagen in August 2012.
Strategies Of Magic #5 was a collaboration with artist Thomas Dahl and was presented at Lindholmens Konsthall in Gothenburg in October 2012. The performance took place in connection with a lecture by philosopher Graham Harman and the release of the cultural magazine Paletten #289.
Strategies Of Magic #6 was the third collaboration with artist Thomas Dahl, and was presented at the bar Senti in Berlin in December 2012. | sv |
