art.description.projectStrategies Of Magic is a series of lecture performances which discusses the concept of magic in relation to different political and philosophical questions. Here, the lecture is intertwined with poetry, music and magic tricks where the purpose is to reveal rather than disguise the the means behind the manifestation. In Strategies Of Magic, the Illusionist is a representation of the populist politician, the two sharing the advantage of performing in front of an audience willing to believe in the trick - making the rabbit –or the political scandal– disappear without a trace. And where Illusionism equals trickery in this interpretation, magic equals political transformation. Furthermore, the relationship between translation and transformation is explored through the use of different kinds of simultaneous interpretation. Strategies of Magic is under constant development, making each new performance unique. This is due to the continuous replacement of material, but also to the fact that I frequently involve other artists in the show, all of whom have been contributing to the piece in different capacities. The piece has been presented at institutions, bars, galleries and clubs in Berlin, Copenhagen and Gothenburg over the past two years, each time in a new edition: Strategies Of Magic #1 was a collaboration with artist and musician Cecilie Beck Kronborg and was presented at the cultural platform basso in Berlin in the summer of 2011. Strategies Of Magic #2 was presented as a part of the performance project Funeral Charade Of Poses – Ein Abend Mit Freundinnen Und Basso. The event took place at Hebbel Am Ufer 1 in Berlin in September 2011 and constituted the finale and the end of the cultural platform basso berlin in Kreuzberg after 7 years of amazing events and arrangements. Participating artists were Adi Khalif, Angeldust, Annika Eriksson, Annika Lundgren with Clara Lopez, Baltazar Castor, Beatrice and Lisa Jugert with Camilla Storgaard, Doireann D., Trine Lund, Anna Mields, Bernhard Wolf Koppmeyer, Chloe Griffin & Gwenaël Rattke, Christophe Chemin, Daniel Cremer, Daniel Wang, Denise Palma Ferrante, Discoteca Flaming Star & Guests, Femme Façade, Francisco Berna, Heike Föll, Jean-Michel Wicker, Johannes Paul Raether mit Frank Eickhoff und Rein Vollenga, Jon Campbell, Karl Holmqvist, Lemercier, Linda Franke, Lynda Revol, Malin Arnell, Nösler, Pedro Castro, Philip Wiegard with Neda Sanai, Norbert Witzgall, Thomas Bratzke & Ryotetsu Masuda, Sabina Maria van den Linden, Sebastian Lee Philipp, Sergio Roger, Susanne M. art.description.summaryStrategies Of Magic # 7 was a magic show that addressed questions regarding power structures, hierarchies of knowledge, identity and gender. Through the examination of the difference between trickery and transformation, the piece aimed to bring out the human potential of making the impossible possible.Strategies of Magic # 7 took place at Bar 10 at Konstepedemin in Gothenburg as a part of Space of Action, which was a meeting between Armenian and Swedish queer activism and art arranged by Maria Fjell.sv
