Från rastplats till lekplats. Förskolors utemiljöer i Skövde kommun

From depot to playground

Abstract
The essay is answering what barriers exist to develop preschool outdoor environments with plant material. The outdoor environment should include different areas with different characters and qualities which also is presented. The methods used are a questionnaire survey, a literature survey, field observations, and a design process. The survey shows that time and money is what prevents most, same survey tells us that the preschool staff miss the most is challenged materials, enough shade and quiet, secluded places in the outdoor environment. My solution for this has been that the municipality can spare shrubs and trees from road ditches and other municipal land, plant materials that would otherwise only be removed and discarded. This plant material can then be used primarily to create quiet, secluded places in the outdoor environment.
