Valstad 1:31 and the water mill which is located on site are owned by Västerviks Museum, they wish to develop the site into a popular tourist attraction where both natural and cultural values are intermingled and attracts visitors from all social groups.
Using the method of field visits was created a overview inventory list of land, shrub and tree layers. Cryptogam flora have also been studied. Methods as interview and archival studies at Västerviks Museum have also been used frequently. During interviews revealed how Valstad 1:31 have been managed before. Archival Studies gave a larger image in the historical land use. Valstad 1:31 has many species worthy of protection and a registered woodland key habitat area.
The watercourse Verkebäcksån and alder wetland forest downstream has great ecological value and biodiversity. Based on all these values a proposal for a management plan for the nature at Valstad 1:31 have been created. Management measures proposed in the management plan are measures that do not require a great deal of work or major financial expenditures. If the management plan is followed, biodiversity will increase and Valstad 1:31 can offer a wider range of visitor attractions. This study has not touched anything in the subject of building conservation. This is left to future research.
