Abstract

This bachelor thesis looks into the effect of broadband coverage on employment in Swedish municipalities divided by different sectors using a multivariate regression model. It has long been argued whether broadband investments really have an impact on employment since evidence from different studies point in different direc- tions. With this bachelor thesis we sought to find evidence of what this effect looks like in Sweden, if any. Few studies have been done in Sweden on this topic although significant sums of investment have been channeled into broadband infrastructure in order to raise the coverage ratio. The evidence of this bachelor thesis shows that the effects for different sectors, although some of them significant, are small and with little economic impact. This shows that more studies are needed in this area to try to find the mechanisms that drive job creation dependent on new technology.
