This thesis focuses on the narratives and descriptions of diversity in the broadcasting company, Sveriges Television. The purpose is to study how the discourse of diversity manifests itself and how it is constituted, in order to analyze and provide a perspective on what it does and how it affects bodies. By using the theoretical perspectives of discourse analysis, postcolonial theory and to some extent phenomenology, the thesis examines organization-wide documents, relevant articles and statements made by employees in the media or in interviews with the author. The thesis problematizes conceptions on diversity as being something entirely positive and illustrates how the subject of diversity is identified as “the other”. The conclusion is that the discourse of diversity, by emphasizing people’s differences and ignoring the hierarchization where one dominates the other, inevitably preserves the power structures of inequality.sv
