art.description.projectThinking Through Clay is a project in progress. At Bomuldsfabriken I showed three ceramic objects. The objects could be described as some sorts of heads. Some of them with a interior that could be examined by looking in through the eyes of the heads. At least two more heads are still to come. Thinking Through Clay (together with other clay based works) will be part of my thesis (working title: Clay based communication). In my research I am focusing on clay as a material for artistic communication. Extracting from my own experience as ceramist I am forming an idea of how the process of turning clay into language could be understood and described. Beside this I am also interested in why expressions that is not textual often are looked upon with suspicion and scepticism. There is in the art world (and elsewhere) a tendency to subordinate material based expressions in the favor of textual communication. I have the idea that what could be told through clay might not be told through other medias (for example text). So if the written part of my thesis could be described as a text based reflection of my own experiences as a ceramist, then Thinking Through Clay could be described as a clay based reflection of my own experiences as phd student. The work is also a materialized example of the clay based language my research revolves around. The work is, if that is not clear enough, influenced by my encounter with philosophy in my role as phd student.sv
