art.description.summaryHow can we create conditions that activates a place through play and crafts? How can a “crafted action play space” act as a social platform for imagination, play, and co-creation between different stakeholders of different ages in the urban environment? The intervention is an idea of a hands-on, co-crafting ’playground’ that explores the intersection of crafts, design, play, and space in new ways. It is also an exploration of how participatory crafts might be more than just a specialized crafter’s act of making and how play might become more than just a child’s activity. The notion of “play action space” is an extension of the standard urban playground, the physical equipment and space, to a participatory social process of making and crafting a play space. In this action space, we want to inspire and engage the citizens, including children, in play and interaction and perhaps discovery in their urban environments. In the workshop we manufacture ropes together with craftsmen, to explore new ways to activate the environment through play and craft where we invite passers in the co-creative play activities. Concept: Helena Hansson and Ariana Amacker, PhD students, HDK Involved actors: Intervention 1) Students from Child Culture design program, HDK, Univeristy of Gothenburg, Christian Erlandsson; basket maker and willow weaver, City of Gothenburg (Park and Nature management), Rope-makers from The rope-making museum in Älvängen, Children and their families, other playminded citizens, Intervention 2) Students from Child Culture design program, HDK and students from Conservation department (Leadership in handicraft), Participants at the Dance and Theatre festival, Rope-makers from The rope-making museum in Älvängen, Children and their families, other playminded citizens.sv
