Zero Waste Europe Implementeringen av EU-mål i komplexa flernivåstyren
Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis investigates the impact of states’ structure on how EU goals are
implemented. The thesis is based on existing theories and research about implementation and
Multi-level governance within the EU, and focused on the case of food waste in Europe. The two main research questions are: (1) How are the EU member states implementing the EU’s
goals regarding food waste? (2) Does the implementation differ between states with different political structure? To answer these questions, three member states with different structures have been picked out: Sweden, France and the United Kingdom. Through analyzing official documents of the member states policies and plans in the case of food waste, the findings show a great difference in how the member states are addressing the problem. The study provides a broader understanding of how the EU is dealing with the problem of food waste and may give an outline of the current problems and possibilities with general EU goals in a union with many different member states.
