Barns delaktighet och användning av bildstöd - en pilotstudie av KomHIT-modellen i allmäntandvård

Abstract
Alla barn har rätt att få information, uttrycka åsikter
och vara delaktiga i frågor som rör dem själva. Föreliggande studie
undersöker genom två delstudier barns delaktighet i tandvård i relation
till ökad kommunikativ tillgänglighet. I den första delstudien
inhämtades åsikter från personal och föräldrar på två
allmäntandvårdskliniker där personalen fått utbildning och stöd för att
använda kallelser med bilder och enkel text till samtliga barn i
åldrarna 0-13 år, samt ha tillgång till bildscheman och bildkartor
under tandvårdsbesök. Enkäter visade att majoriteten av föräldrarna
skattade att bildstöd främjade delaktighet. Personalen skattade att
förförståelse och förståelse underlättades men att aktivt deltagande
samt att prata och ställa frågor inte påverkades. I den andra delstudien
intervjuades grupper med skolbarn. Barnen talade om att de vill bli
lyssnade på och trodde att bildkallelsen kunde minska oro inför
tandvårdsbesök. Resultaten indikerar att ökad kunskap och
användning av bildstöd främjar barns delaktighet i tandvård, men att
mer forskning behövs.
Description
All children have the right to express their opinions and to
be involved in issues and decisions that concern them. Through two
sub studies, this study examines children’s participation in dental care
in relation to increased communicative accessibility. In the first sub
study, opinions were collected from staff and parents at two general
dental practices, where the staff had received education and support to
send invitation letters with pictures to all children aged 0-13 years, as
well as using picture schedules and communication maps in dental
visits. Surveys showed that a majority of the parents thought that
pictural support could facilitate children's participation. The staff
thought that pictorial support could help understanding before and
during the visit but that, for instance, talking and asking questions was
unaffected. In the second sub study school aged children was
interviewed. They spoke about wanting to be listened to and they
believed that the pictorial invitation letter could increase
understanding and reduce anxiety regarding dental visits. The results
indicate that increased knowledge and use of pictorial support may
improve children's participation and communication rights, but more
research is needed.
