Rörelse och rytm i Lage Lindells bildskapande - fallstudie av Umeåväggen

Movement and Rhythm in Lage Lindell’s Oeuvre – A Case Study of the Umeå Wall

Abstract
This thesis examines rhythm and movement in the visual art by Swedish artist Lage Lindell (1920-1980), in the form of a case study of his mural painting ”Umeåväggen” at the University of Umeå, 1972. The analysis are grounded in theories of performativity and reception aesthetics. The focus lies on the meeting between the artwork itself and its beholder. In what way has Lindell’s own experiences of drawing and graphics affected his paintings? Connections and degrees of convergence between Lindell’s art and jazz music and improvisation complement the examination.
