Films continue to be an underused pedagogical resource in Spanish as a foreign language (SFL) teaching despite the technological advances during the last decades. The audio-visual elements are more and more demanded in today’s society thanks to the use of personal electronic devices for both leisure and information searching as for communication. Films constitute a beneficial way to introduce the target language and its cultures into the foreign language classroom because of the dense linguistic and sociocultural material that they provide. There are studies that promote cinematographic exploitation in foreign language teaching as a source to develop intercultural competence where the students become mediators between the native and target cultures. Hence, we consider films to be a useful tool to improve the students’ linguistic and sociocultural comprehension regarding the target language. The purpose of the present study is to investigate how SFL teachers in upper secondary schools use films in their teaching.sv
