The productiveness of Delanty’s models are explored through an empirical analysis based on Erasmus student report forms from 1131 Swedish students at the University of Gothenburg and the University of Lund. Specific questions in the Erasmus student report forms are operationalised as indicators to explore Delanty’s models of European identity. The five models of European identity are: Moral universalism, European postnational universalism, European cultural particularism, European pragmatism and European cosmopolitism. The model which turns out to be most productive to indicate a European identity in experience among the Erasmus students is the moral universalism model. The models of European post national universalism, European pragmatism, European cosmopolitism, also proved to foster an understanding of European identity.sv
