Traces of the old Rosenlund - The historicisation of a changing city enviroment
Abstract
This study is about Rosenlund, an area of the central Gothenburg city, that holds a rich history. The
area is mainly fameous for the old bastion on site, as well as the fish trade located in the area since the
early 19:th century. During the last decades the area have changed in apparence and is facing further
changes.
It is a fact that Rosenlund is changing into a different type of area compared to before. New shops and
restaurants are opening in the area and it also becomes more acessible from other areas of Gothenburg.
This process will undoubtly affect the heritage sites in Rosenlund.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how the representations of the area of Rosenlund in a
number of text-based documents affects the historicisation and use of the place.
The documents used in the study was selected due to that they all describes the history of Rosenlund in
different ways. This descriptions of Rosenlunds history is analyzed in a discourse analysis. The
different documents showed that there is a lot in common between the documents in the
historicisation, but also some differences.
The questions at issue revolves around what stakeholders are participating in the historicisation of
Rosenlund, what types of heritage the area of Rosenlund inherit, and if the heritage is viewable in the
area of Rosenlund today.
This study implies that there are several stakeholders that participate in the historicisation, and that
they influence how the heritage in the area is presented in writing and on place. It also implies that
some of the heritage is very viewable, but that some of it is less obvouis to see.
