Description of project
“Dug Material” is a project developed since 2012 investigating the potentials involved in processes of memory, forgetting and erasure.
“Dug Material” works from pages of books that have been underlined, erasing/highlighting the stressed selection by painting the remaining text on the pages. Preservation through the slow act of painting translate the process of intended memorization, but also how memorization is a process that requires forgetting.
“Dug Material” is an archive of dislocated, extracted textual appropriation from which new texts become possible. For this iteration, the selection focused on the tension between being emotional and being political, and the contrasts and relations between the two.
In this iteration of the project, “Dug Material” was presented in photographic formats and displayed in light boxes normally used for outdoor advertisement, creating a medial contrast between printed page matter, painting and high-tech/digital printing.
