art.description.project | A weekly class with suburban teenagers (K-pop club in Gothenburg) who gather around Youth afterschool activity centre 1200 m2 Undomens hus, located in one of the Gothenburg’s suburbs.
The group consisted of 15-20 teenagers aged 14-18. Started from 21 July for a food sharing event the group and I as a facilitator had a weekly meeting on every Tuesday during the autumn term. The objective of the class is to learn Korean language and culture, as the students’ interests originated from their passion about K-pop. But in addition to Korean elements, I, as an art educator, tried to introduce art practices such as self expressions through drawings, drama, group expressions against Nazi’s demonstration by calligraphy, and discussions about multicultural backgrounds and self -empowerment. A number of the participants of the class came to Valand Academy’s open house day (24th November) and took part in a guide tour and participated in a sculpture workshop. | sv |
