VALFEMINISMENS TID ÄR NU En studie om feminismwashing i ett nyliberalt samhälle kopplat till boken Why I Am Not a Feminist: A Feminist Manifesto
Abstract
This essay examines the book Why I Am Not a Feminist: A Feminist Manifesto, written by Jessa Crispin. My aim is to analyze Crispin’s statement that there is a feminism which focus on personal gain and self-empowerment rather than destruction of the patriarchy. I want to see from where this feminism emerged and where it operates today. By connecting theories about neo-liberalism, intersectionality and an extension of the concept pinkwashing – which I have chosen to call feminismwashing – I want to create an understanding of how feminism can function in a neo-liberal society. With discourse analysis and argumentative analysis as methods, combined with previously mentioned theories, I want to problematise Crispin’s argument to see how they can create knowledge in a field of gender studies. The purpose of this paper is to see what branch of feminism Crispin investigates, but also which feminism she suggests instead. In my conclusion, I reflect over my work process as well as make suggestions on further research in this field.
