The environmental aspects of the European Common Agricultural Policy, CAP, are of increasing importance. In this study, the author investigates how farmers in an area facing natural constraints view the supports in CAP from an environmental perspective. The theory used indicates that decision-making regarding environmental policies must be adopted at different scales. In order to investigate how farmers view the CAP and the different scales of decision-making in succeeding to consider their context, farmers from western Värmland in Sweden are interviewed. The results show that some parts of the support succeed when it comes to considering the farmers’ local context. The most prominent result is that farmers view the agri-environmental schemes as an important support, since they are better targeted. Furthermore, the farmers would prefer more decisions being taken by the local authorities.sv
