This essay will deal with six photographs from the Swedish magazine Damernas Värld and will analyse how the women in the pictures can be understand as non-normative in the context of fashion photography. The women’s transformation from object to subject are discussed based on gaze theories and with a cultural historical perspective. The study also examines if the photographs can be linked to any feministic messages in their historical context. The photographs in this study are from the 1970s, 1990s and from 2010s, and are chosen for this study based on the feminist eras which occurred during the second half of the 20th century. By looking at the environment, context, depiction, fashion, and personality in the photographs the study aims to examine what possible positions the women possess.sv
