Strain injuries of hewing timber- strenuous working positions when hewing the surface on timber
Abstract
Hewing timber is strenuous for your whole body even when doing it the right way. To find out about the appearance of strain injuries when hewing timber, I did my investigation based on interviews with both carpenters and hysiotherapists. First of all, I photographed myself when hewing to bring as starting material for my interviews. The purpose of my interviews was to find out about what working positions carpenters use when hewing. After a summation of that intel, I created video material to show physiotherapists these working positions and movements that happens in the body. If possible, what to do when hewing timber to avoid strain injuries. Although there are a few things you can do to reduce the risks for strain injuries.
The result is to find a working position that strains the whole body equally. Do not work in the same position for too long, it is important to change either working position by lower or raise the log or change duty to vary the movement. By training and build up good physical strength, you have a good chance to avoid all types of
injuries caused by overwork.
