dc.description.abstract | Gingerbread work was popular at the end of the 19th century and one of the architects who favoured the use of gingerbread work was Löfvenskiöld. After him there are drawings of patterns but there are no descriptions of how the details were made.
The purpose of the survey is to provide answers to how the gingerbread work can be manufactured and constructed, and retain the information contained in existing gingerbread work on buildings that are not documented. The work is limited to the decorations on top of the gable.
The survey will provide answers to this through building investigations by looking for
tool traces. After that, theories of how the manufacturing can have been mad will be
tested through practical trials.
Manufacturing of gingerbread work at the end of the 19th century is in the transition between handmade and mechanical manufacturing. Most of the gable decorations made then have very likely been manufactured by hand with scaffold saw and drill. | sv |
