This thesis aims to shed some light on a particular type of farm house in the south Swedish region of Scania. Though very common, it is little spoken of and hardly described in literature at all. The house type, built from brick, replaced the traditional half timbered houses in the 19th century. This coincided with a construction boom of neo-gothic churches. The region is still famous for the older type of farmhouse. The thesis examines nine brick houses from the period. The special angle of examination is the glance of the mason. Subsequently, the questions answered in this thesis concern the basic traits of the houses, and which observations can be made about materials and the brickwork. The results paint a picture of appearance, proportions, construction, materials and details of the masonry.sv
