Purpose: A massive criticism has blossomed up towards the Swedish police authority due to the great dissatisfaction that exist within the police. The number of police officers who resigned has increased significantly in recent years. To this background, the purpose of the study was to increase understanding of the factors that affects why police officers end their employment. Theory: This study was conducted from a social psychology and sociological perspective in which I used Albert Hirschman´s theory of exit, voice, and loyalty as a recovery mechanism of dissatisfaction. Method: The study is a case study with a qualitative method. Twenty police officers and former police officers of the police in Gothenburg have been interviewed. The data has been coded and schematized and analyzed by means of Albert Hirschman´s theory and presented in a multilevel perspective. Result: The data from the interviewees report that society, organization, groups and individual factors affect why police officers resign. More precisely affects opportunities in the labor market, criminal politics, working environment, salary, the reorganization, bureaucracy, education and development, managership, recruitment, fellowship, health and the identity and work as a police officer the intention to end employment.sv
