Medieval wooden floors, a study in the makings and of the construction in 1300th churches
Abstract
The purpose of the thesis is to investigate which methods, materials and tools where used in the makings of 1300th church floors. The unique corned-timbered church Södra Råda was burnt down in 2001. In 2007 the reconstruction began and now, in 2018 the work has come the wooden floors where more information was needed.
Literature studies have provided basic knowledge and a preunderstanding of the subject.
4 different church-related buildings have been investigated to further broaden the knowledge. Where these two sources lacked profound knowledge, a practical experiment aimed to bring further understanding in the makings a 1300th church floors.
The aim of thesis has been to broaden the understanding and our knowledge about medieval church floors by combining these three sources. The results will constitute one more piece of information in understanding medieval woodworking and further provide possible approaches in making a wooden church floor.
