art.description.projectPULSING (Gothenburg) is a site-specific LED light installation that uses Morse Code as a method of visually transmitting textual messages into a series of light signals. PULSING (Gothenburg) website https://pulsingingothenburg.tumblr.com people are invited to type in a civil rights chant, a lyric from a protest song or a verse from a poem of resistance or any other calls for action that they are empowered by. These verses will be translated in real time into a Morse Code light pulsing from the front, harbor facing window of the Röda Sten Konsthall. The works asks the local community what is urgent to say right now. Examples of chants that were submitted which may have been collected from various protests, actions, manifestations are: -art is not a mirror art is a hammer -BOLIVIA DIJO NO/Bolivia said no, respect democracy and people’s votes -ingen racister i vores gader -Instead of prohibiting drugs, help us improve reality -Jämställdhet/Gender equality -krossakapitalismen!/crush capitalism PULSING (Gothenburg) is a project initiated by artist and activist Mary Coble that has been developed in collaboration with nuclear engineer, energy activist and programmer Nick Touran. This work was commissioned for the exhitbion "Ingen rök utan eld. Shout Fire!" at the Röda Sten Konsthall with works also by fantastic artists Annika Lundgren, Felipe Mujica, Joar Nango and Carla Zaccagnini, curated by Mariangela Méndez Prencke. "Including commissioned projects in combination with already existing works, the exhibition brings forward current concerns on cultural autonomy, democracy, activism, and civil courage. Works that invoke the power of the word, that encourage conversations and exchange; actions that engage the body, the voice, techniques that gather collective knowledge, and questions that need to be asked anew.”sv
