This thesis is about an openable window pane in a larger window sash. The small window pane makes it possible to ventilate the room in wintertime. In older buildings in Sweden, it is common to have external sashes and loose inner sashes. In the summer, only the external sashes are used. When it is getting colder in the autumn the inner loose window sashes are mounted. They are sealed with tape over the slots, to stop the draft and cooling in the rooms. It becomes difficult to air the room with such a solution. To solve this problem, a small, openable window pane was made. It is recessed in the muntins and the side pieces. The lack of literature on the subject lies behind the emergence of this study. The purpose of the study was to show and compare constructions of different airing panes In the beginning of this study, an airing pane is made, by following a drawing in "Fönster - historik och råd vid renovering" (Antell & Lisinski 2000 s. 45). The drawing doesn’t show how the sashes are constructed or joined in the corners. This became to be one of the main issues. Seven different window frames have been measured and documented. In the comparison, it turned out that it is not entirely true what Antell & Lisinski claimed in their book. Some are correct, and some do not match their claims.sv
