The Finance Function of Car Corporations in the Age of Digitalization - Case Study: Volvo Cars
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the affects of the current market change due to digitalization
in Volvo Cars finance function. An extended literature search was made in order to
gather information regarding the current marketplace, and in what direction it is heading.
Further, a case study within the finance function of Volvo Cars was done. These sources of
information were then used to establish an organizational structure and way of working, that
would be able to handle the requirements of new and the ever changing market. Likewise
the capabilities and mindset needed to successfully implement the new way of working was
analyzed. It was found that companies that work in ways that strictly define responsibility
between different parties, while allowing for adjustments, flexibility and development could
better meet the challenges of digitalization. They also have to be up to date in systems that
can be used to automate simple processes trough different RPA-systems. In order to achieve
such a way of working the organizational mindset has to be matched with the new processes.
It has to allow for openness, inclusiveness and encouragement for continuous learning and
personal development.
