Vädrets påverkan på vart människor befinner sig vid hållplatser. En undersökning vid Korsvägen i Göteborg
Abstract
Gothenburg is a city where public transport by bus and tram is of great importance for how to
get around the city. This means that many people use the city's stops every day. The weather
in Gothenburg varies and the differences between the seasons are great, with everything from
cold snowy winters to warm sunny summer days. The protection against rain, wind and sun
throughout the year from these bus stops is therefore of great importance to people in
Gothenburg. The purpose of this study is to investigate how people stay on a bus stop and
how they relate to other people in the same area at different weather conditions. Bus stop A, at
Korsvägen in Gothenburg was selected as the place of study. Data on where people are and
how they experience the place was collected using direct observations and surveys. Data was
collected during March to May 2019. Data from the summer of 2002 was also used.
Meteorological data from the climate station at Geovetarcentrum's roof and from SMHI were
used to study the connection between weather and where people were staying at the stop.
The weather affects where you located at the bus stop when waiting for a bus or tram.
Observations show that the proportion of people that are in the shade, sitting and sitting in the
shade increases with increased air temperature. It shows that warmer weather is important to
where and how people are located on the bus stop. The proportion of people who choose to
stay in the shade is larger in 2019 compared to 2002. One explanation for this may be that
more people in 2019 have access to mobile phones and especially smartphones. It is easier to
see the screen in the shade than when the sun reflects of the screen and dazzles the user. The
surveys also show that the majority of people choose a place at to stand or sit at based on the
weather. This applied regardless of the age or sex of the person. If it is raining or not, has a
big impact on where people are choosing to stay at the bus stops. When it rains, the majority
of people are standing 0-1 meters from other people under some kind of weather protection.
The majority of people at the bus stop choose to stand 1-3 meters from other people when it’s
not raining. It shows that the personal sphere has a grater importance when the weather is
good because people stand further form other people, but comes in second hand when it rains.
Then people stay closer to other people. The study's results can be used to design stops to be
better adapted to people's needs in different weather conditions.
